A little extra information: What is meant by the word Temperature?

  • Temperature is an attribute of color or a characteristic of a pigment. In the context of color and painting, when artists refer to temperature, what they are referring to is the degree of warmth or coolness measured when one color stands in relationship to another color creating a measure of contrast.
  • This perceived temperature is usually measured relative to something else or relative to the area around it.
  • In painting landscapes, artists use color temperature as a way to establish color relationships. Understanding this concept is important because it will help the artist in creating depth and distance as well as creating a main area of interest.

  • Understanding color temperature also helps the artist learn to control the mixing of colors on the palette.

Excellent and exact demonstration and Instruction

Posted by Jim Cryan on 16th Jul 2014

I went through all of the video over the past two days and looked through the PDF's. It is wonderful how much, and how easily adsorbed, information, technique and rational about color temperature and every other aspect of the painting process Neadeen is able to include in this presentation. I still have to finish other work in progress but this will be the next project I get to work on.
