This painting is a contemporary adaptation of the beautiful tulip so often painted in the Flemish vanitas paintings during the 17th Century. At that time striped tulips were very rare and therefore very costly. This graceful flower is a pleasure to paint as we work through the various stages of the painting. Emphasis is placed on creating a background that adds interest and depth to the painting without distracting from the beautiful flower. We will focus on maintaining the contour and flow of the flower petals throughout the entire painting process. The techniques taught in this class will benefit you as they can be applied in many intermediate and advanced painting studies.
The original was painted on a 22"x22" square gallery wrapped canvas but it can also be painted on a rectangular shaped canvas. The line drawing can be enlarged to the size you desire. A line drawing for a second tulip is also provided.
