Painting Techniques: Sue Pruett shares her painting experience with you in this written tutorial. In this painting lesson, Sue explains how the surface texture of an object dictates which type of blending technique is used. This is a great lesson to help reinforce different painting textures.

The artist needs to understand when each technique is needed to paint realistic surfaces.

  • Learn to paint smooth surfaces,
  • Maintaining a transparent effect,
  • Learn to create texture using different blending techniques...The shine and reflective properties of glass depicts a smooth surface where as the baby's breath flowers demand a textured surface using a stippling technique...Flower petals and leaves are blended in a refined manner revealing the soft smooth texture. Sue will help you expand your skills with this painting lesson.

I already finished painting this pattern. It is great! I got all of Sue's glass patterns, because I am obsessed with glass after taking her glass class :) Excellent pattern, just like ALL of Sue's patterns! Lots of stage photos, and steps are very well described. I am giving this painting to my husband's mom for Christmas, cause I am already lacking wall space to hang everything I painted with Sue's patterns lol Need another house for display purposes :) Thank you, Sue, for making me a happy painter! :)
